Term 2

In English this term we will be looking in detail at 3 different texts The Jolly Postman, Meerkat Mail and Meerkat Christmas.  There are video links to these stories being read below.  We will be learning about the features of postcards and writing our own.  This unit will commence formerly from week 3.

In week 1, we will having a short look at bonfire night safety and making posters and in week 2 we will have a week long unit focussed on Remembrance.  We will be looking in detail at the Cbeebies animation - shown below and building up our own sentences to retell the story & thinking carefully about the range of emotions felt.

"Poppies" on CBeebies - Children's Remembrance Day 2 Minutes' Silence Alternative

Instead of 2 minutes' silence, CBBC and CBeebies broadcast this 2 minute animation called "Poppies", showing war from the animals' points of view. Beautiful...

In maths this term we will be furthering our understanding of place value and becoming confident at counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  For some we will begin to look at counting in 3s as well.  Later in the term we will be looking at addition and subtraction.  Most learning for these lessons will be sent through Google Classroom if it is required and there will be a few videos added onto the web page.

Our first topic this term is a History focussed unit called 'Communication Then and Now'.  We will be following this unit for 3 weeks, before starting our second 3 week topic.  Our second topic is a Design and Technology topic called 'Puppets' and as the title suggests, the children will be learning the skills to make different puppets!  You will be able to look at the knowledge organisers for each of these topics on the class website page.  Any further learning required can be sent through google classroom.
